Percy Jackson is going to be beamed directly into your home starting December 20th, so everyone will be out of school and ready to binge the whole thing. There’s a near certain chance that it’s going to be better than the ill-fated movie series. Rick Riordan famously wrote an open letter for students to share with their teachers telling them not to spend classroom time watching the movies.

When one fan wrote on Twitter that “it’s refreshing that Uncle Rick hates the PJo movies even more than we do,” Riordan added, “well, to you guys, it’s a couple hours’ entertainment. To me, it’s my life’s work going through a meat grinder when I pleaded with them not to do it. So yeah. But it’s fine. All fine. We’re gonna fix it soon.” Riordan says he never even watched the movies but saw the scripts beforehand.

There was also an off-broadway theatrical run called The Lightning Thief that ended up doing really well. Time Out gave it four out of five stars.

Hopefully this will bring a whole new generation of readers into the world of greek mythology. I read them all as they came out and thought they were great. If you haven’t read them yet, they’re quick reads and a good recommendation to any middleschooler.
